What do you do when you show up at a newborn shoot and the baby just wants to be held?

No need to panic – just get creative and work with the baby! I’ve come to realize that I am not in control when it comes to newborn shoots.

I can have a vision, I can have my wants – but when it comes right down to it, the baby is in charge. I have to work around what he wants; I just do my very best to give him and his parents a wonderful story to remember for a lifetime.

This is baby Phoenix. I had the honour of taking his photograph when he was just four days old. He loved his mom and dad so much that he would not be released to take a portrait on his own.

In the end the portraits that I gave will be ones that tell his story, and what’s even better is he’s got a picture in time of how his mom and dad loved him right back.
